Industrial Grade Epoxy Systems by Spartan Epoxies: Options for Concrete Preparation, Primers, Midcoats, and Urethanes

Spartan Epoxies offers a wide range of industrial-grade epoxy systems designed to meet the demands of tough environments. Whether you're looking for a high-performance coating for your warehouse, factory, or garage, Spartan Epoxies has the right system for you.

Concrete Preparation: Before applying any epoxy system, it's crucial to prepare the concrete surface properly. Proper preparation ensures maximum adhesion, durability, and longevity of the coating. At Spartan Epoxies, we recommend several options for concrete preparation, including diamond grinding and acid etching. There are other ways to prepare concrete, but generally those 2 are the most popular. You don't need to perform both, either you grind using a concrete grinder, or you etch.

Primers: A good primer is the foundation of any epoxy system. At Spartan Epoxies, we offer two primary options for primers: HDPRO and HDWB Waterborne Epoxy. HDPRO is a 93% high solids epoxy with a 2:1 mixing ratio that covers up to 267 square feet per gallon. HDWB Waterborne Epoxy is a 4:1 epoxy that covers up to 267 square feet per gallon. Both primers offer excellent adhesion and are suitable for most applications.

Midcoats: Midcoats provide additional thickness and protection to your epoxy system. Spartan Epoxies offers several options for midcoats, including HDPRO, which can be used as both a primer and midcoat. When using HDPRO as a midcoat, apply it at 133 square feet per gallon after waiting for 45 to 60 minutes following the primer application. PRO100 is another option for midcoats and covers up to 125 square feet per gallon.

Pigmented Urethane vs. Clear Urethane: After applying the primer and midcoat, you have a choice between a pigmented urethane or a clear urethane topcoat. Pigmented urethanes come in a variety of colors and offer superior UV stability compared to clear urethanes. On the other hand, clear urethanes are an excellent choice if you want to showcase the natural beauty of your concrete. Both urethanes provide excellent protection against abrasion, impact, and chemicals.

Fork Trucks and Urethanes: It's important to consider the type of vehicles that will be operating on your epoxy-coated floor. Fork trucks, for example, can be particularly damaging to urethane coatings because of the weight and pressure they exert on the surface. If you expect heavy vehicle traffic, it may be best to choose a pigmented epoxy or a clear epoxy with a high build to provide the necessary protection. However, TC92 High Wear Urethane Topcoat is an excellent choice if you're looking for a urethane topcoat that can be used with light use of fork trucks or pallet jack traffic.

Polyaspartic Urethanes: Spartan Epoxies also offers polyaspartic urethane options for industrial flooring. These coatings offer several advantages, including fast cure times, high durability, and excellent resistance to UV rays and chemicals. Polyaspartic urethanes are a great choice for industrial environments where downtime must be minimized.

We offer both clear and pigmented versions of our polyaspartic urethane coatings. Our most popular options are HP44 and PC66, which have a longer working time, making them user-friendly, especially for first-time users.

Polyaspartic urethanes are a great option for those looking for a coating that can cure quickly. However, it's important to note that these coatings are not recommended for areas with heavy forklift traffic or areas with high impact and abrasion. In these cases, a pigmented urethane or an epoxy system with a urethane topcoat would be a better choice.

In conclusion, Spartan Epoxies offers a variety of industrial-grade epoxy systems that can be customized to meet your specific needs. From concrete preparation to topcoats, our systems are designed to provide maximum protection, durability, and longevity. By offering a wide range of coating options, Spartan Epoxies has become a leader in industrial-grade flooring solutions.
